The high knee step-up is a cardio-focused step-up variation where you drive the back knee up explosively after stepping onto the box. It combines lower-body strength with explosive hip flexion and cardiovascular conditioning. It is a popular HIIT exercise.

How to perform
- Stand facing a sturdy box or bench (knee-height).
- Step your right foot up onto the box.
- Drive through your right foot to push your body up explosively. As you reach standing, drive your left knee up to hip height (or higher).
- Briefly hold the high-knee position on top of the box.
- Lower your left foot back to the floor.
- Step your right foot back down.
- Repeat all reps on the right, then switch.
- Move with explosive intent, not slow control.
